My Advice For Bella Mia's Next Intern: Written by Cate Lindstrom

Bella Mia is a vibrant, lively, passionate place focused on making shoppers happy and confident with whatever they put on. These same characteristics remain consistent through their internship program. Being an intern at Bella Mia means hands-on experience and guidance from people who truly enjoy what they do. Along with the instruction, interns will have an opportunity to use their own individual skill sets to shape their learning process. Hands on experience with marketing, branding, advertising, and the in’s and out’s of running a small business - Bella Mia fosters an environment of growth and happiness.

Hi shoppers!

This is Cate reporting on my official last day as the fall intern! As it pains me to say, I will no longer be the intern who gets to run around and experience some of the awesome tasks listed above. However, I cannot wait for what is in store for the next intern who gets the opportunity to have just as rewarding of a learning experience as I did. On that note, I would like to leave Bella Mia with some words of advice for the next Bella-To-Be Intern!

Cate’s Advice For The Next Bella Mia Intern

  1. Go- with- the- flow!

With the hustle and bustle of two crazy busy stores, sometimes you will have to divert from the original plan… and that’s okay! Keep the end goal in mind, but remember that its okay to change your course of action in order to get a task completed.

  2. Don’t be afraid to ask people if they need help

This is one tip that I do believe helped define my learning process. Asking customers if they are looking for a specific item or where they can find a certain product helped lead into further conversations. Hence, this allowed me to continue to learn about the store itself along with customer service.

  3. Talk to everyone!

And now is when I get slightly teary eyed… The Bella Mia team is seriously unbeatable. Everyone has different strengths and personalities that lead to a cohesive team of strong women (along with Warren and Ryan of course!). These girls have taught me so much about the business but as well as life. Its pretty easy to fall in love with this store, but even easier to fall in love with the people who run it! :)

  4. Share your ideas

Don’t be afraid to share your thoughts. Sometimes when I contributed my input, we were able to help structure a plan in which we both agreed would be beneficial for whatever task we were trying to tackle!

  5. Make the most of your time…

IT GOES QUICK! Again, its going to be hard not reporting to the lovely Emily D every Wednesday. That being said, I wouldn’t trade any of my experiences here for the world! I am forever grateful to be able to have spent the last three months here and had SO MUCH FUN! Future interns, soak up as much as you can, it’ll be over before you know it.

With one last wholehearted goodbye, my experience at Bella Mia will be one that I will never forget. I cannot wait to see whats in store for this wonderful business and future interns!

She's Got Layers: How To Wear Layers For Fall

Hi Bella’s! Its Cate here - the fall Intern!

It’s fall time here in Michigan which means pumpkin everything, colorful leaves, and sunshine right?! Calling this beautiful place home has so many perks… however, one thing that avid fashion lovers like myself resent about this Midwestern state is the wacky weather! Waking up to 40 degree’s in the morning and walking outside at 2 pm to 80 degrees seems to be an unfortunate norm. Snow to sleet to fog, Michigan covers all the bases!

That being said, I am here to combat these unfortunate weather patterns with a style guide focused on how to dress for any sort of conditions. Each outfit is centered around the sole purpose of being able to work in any sort of weather mother nature decides to throw at us!

Between jackets, sweaters, and tee’s, we are showing YOU how to dress in layers!

A Letter From Sarah and Arlette: The Owners of Bella Mia

We are very excited to announce that August marks our 15th year as Bella Mia LLC!

Our time as a business in this community is a testament to the amazing support of those who choose to shop small and keep us going! Thank you! Our gratitude extends beyond just your financial support but also to a personal level in that you’ve shared who you are, challenged us in ways that have made us grow and learn and always made Bella Mia feel like a part of the heart of Plymouth.

We are a store that seeks to connect with others through fashion and through the years we’ve been fortunate enough to be able to do this together and alongside the phenomenal individuals that make up our staff. While on the surface our common denominator might be a love of style, underneath we all have a passion  to genuinely connect with you- the customer.

We are humbled and thankful—You are the reason we do this!

Just a small token on our appreciation - the remainder of August we are offering 15% off* storewide for all our guests. We are honored you have made us your neighborhood boutique for a decade and a half and look forward to more years of friendship and shopping together.

See you in stores soon!

Let's Swap; A Community Clothing Event

You know that top in your closet that doesn't fit right? Or that dress you never wear anymore? Those items can finally be put to good use again in another woman's closet. It's time to cleanse your closet of the old and make way for something new. Bring your gently used, unwanted items to Bella Mia Boutique's first clothing swap on Sunday, August 12 from 6pm-8pm. Join other local women for this community wide clothing swap in the parking lot behind Bella Mia!

Never been to a clothing swap? No worries- we have the deets!

  • Bring at least three but no more than fifteen gently preloved items of women's clothing and accessories. That's right- clear out not only your clothing but also your jewelry, purses, hats, scarves, and shoes!
  • No name brand? No problem! We don't discriminate but we do ask that the items have no signs of major wear (holes, stains, pulls, etc.)
  • For every item you bring, you'll receive a ticket to "purchase" other items! SO- you'll start with a minimum of three tickets and a maximum of fifteen tickets. Yes- that's right, you have the chance to get up to fifteen new to you items!

Five reasons to swap:

  1. It's economical! Swapping clothes is an easy way to stay on budget.
  2. That feeling you get when you clean our your closet and feel FRESH.
  3. Bring your girlfriends to make it a free and fun girls night out!
  4. You just might find a treasured piece that you'll wear way more than those old jeans that don't even fit you anymore. #realtalk
  5. Any items that are leftover, we'll donate to an awesome charity FOR YOU! One less thing on the to do list. #winwin

Now that you're convinced- we'll see you there!

Who We Want To See At This Year's Art In The Park

Art in the Park

The Top 4 Must See Artists of 2018

For over thirty years, Plymouth has attracted hundreds of artists for a 3-day weekend called ‘Art in the Park’. This event aims to celebrate and support artists from communities across the nation. Every year, this city wide affair does not disappoint and we find ourselves running from to booth so as not to miss a singlething! With 400 artists annually, it's almost impossible to hit every single booth and really appreciate every piece of art. This year we decided to feature our top 4 must see artists so you can learn a little more before you hit the show.

4. Go Forth Goods

Go Forth Goods is a USA based high quality leather goods company whose main focus is to to be faithful down to the last stitch, to give back, and make a difference. The founder, Nathan Martin, thinks about every design and how it will wear over the next ten to twenty years with continually use. Using American-sourced leather, solid brass and copper rivets as their staples, they ensure that their goods will last for years to come.

Not only does this Georgia based company care about they quality of the product they are producing, but they also value giving back to their community. 10% of all Go Forth Good's proceeds goes to the non profit organizations including local organization, Must Ministries who helps the homeless, abused women, and a food pantry to give back to their community.

With these high quality products and philanthropy of Nathan Martin and his team of artisans, they are a must at this year's Art in the Park! With prices starting at $15+, you need to grab one of their beautifully designed leather goods or t-shirts to show your support!

Be sure to stop by their booth and say hi to Nathan and Adam!

3. PezPet

Inspired by her dog, Jack, Ruthie began creating her own line of pet collars after continuous disappointment in the quality and unoriginality of collars from your local pet store. Determined, she learned how to create her own collars that she could customize and change seasonally for her beautiful German Shorthair Pointer.

Based in Saint Clair Shores, Michigan (#michiganmade) she specializes in collars, leashes, and other toys for any furry friend! Ruthie also handmakes martingales, a rare special training collar, in her amazing patterns and colors! With collars ranging from $13-$30, and accessories starting at $5, you and your furry friend need to stop by and say hi to Ruthie in her booth off of Forest Avenue!

2. Manna Pottery

Artist Rezgar Mamand creates hand painted decorative and functional ceramics that feature an ancient aesthetic with a contemporary appeal. The word Manna is derived from Mannea, an ancient civilization that dates back to the 7th-10th centuries BC. Mannea is located in the northwest region of Kurdistan, Iran- which is near where Rezgar grew up (Rabat). We love the idea of commemorating a special occasion such as wedding, graduation or birth of a child with a one of a kind, hand painted piece of art from Manna Pottery.

1. Stella and Luna

Lia Andreassi is Detroit born and raised (#detroitlove) and has a minor obsession with essential oils! She was introduced to diffuser jewelry (which combines natural stones and fragrant oil) after a recent trip to California. However she was frustrated by being unable to find jewelry of this type that featured designs that suited her personal style. Hence Stella and Luna was born; diffuser jewelry of her own design.

She uses high grade gemstones with black lava diffusing beads to create beautiful bracelets and adds a personal touch with a delicate charm. Each bracelet can have essential oils added to the black lava beads for lasting scent for aromatherapy and alternative medicine with healing properties. The scent can last up to three days and then can be reapplied or swapped for your next favorite essential oil!

There are so many benefits to essential oils and having them so readily available is the reason Lia creates these beautiful accessories; she says her goal is to create relaxation at your wrist! Be sure to stop inside of Bella Mia to meet Lia and purchase one of her bracelets for only $18.

Woolzie's Essential Oils and Essential Oil's guidebook will also be available for purchase.

Who are you looking forward to seeing this year? Don't forget to come into Bella Mia and get a refreshing water bottle and a coupon!
