Our Story
Bella Mia first opened in August of 2003 in Plymouth’s Historic Old Village. Arlette and Sarah (mother-daughter owners) launched the tiny 600 square foot shop with the hope of bringing a stylish outpost to their cozy hometown. In its early days, this “funky” boutique offered makeup and beauty products alongside purses, jewelry, and accessories. Soon, it became clear that apparel would be the backbone of their collection and inspiration. With affordability and individuality as its main focus, this tiny boutique grew its customer base and inventory and decided to move to a more spacious location in downtown Plymouth in 2005. A few years later, after beginning to dabble in fancier apparel including prom dresses and elegant tops, it was decided that a second store was needed! In the fall of 2008, Bella Mia launched their ‘Dressed-Up’ location on Ann Arbor Trail. Bella Mia Dressed-Up honors its namesake in offering clients unique social occasion apparel and accessories. In 2012, Bella Mia moved up the street toward Ann Arbor Trail to be closer to its sister store but still kept the focus on being the free spirited counterpart to the sophisticated Dressed-Up. As the stores continue to mature and grow, owners Arlette and Sarah run the company alongside their staff of Bellas who seamlessly work between the two locations and bring their own dedication to our stamp in downtown Plymouth.
Bella Mia is Italian for "My Beautiful" and was inspired by Arlette's grandmother who used the saying with her grandchildren every time they got dressed up for special occasions. We believe that truly feeling beautiful comes from confidence within and the love we feel from those around us.
